Sunnyslope Neighborhood In Corona CA

The Neighborhood Of Sunnyslope

Sunnyslope gets its name from the Corona Sunnyslope Cemetery off Rimpau Avenue. It is also called Sunnyslope Cemetery Corona and just Corona Cemetery. The smaller area bounded by Magnolia Avenue, Highway 15, Kellogg Avenue, City Circle Drive and East Grand Boulevard is sometimes called Las Palmas.

The area has decent public transit. There are bus routes on Rimpau Avenue, Magnolia Avenue and El Sobrante Road. That’s why the neighborhood received a public transit score of 32. It managed a bike score of 42. There are quite a few bike lanes.

Sunnyslope is surprisingly walkable. It received a better than average walk score of 64. You can walk to the Temescal Village Plaza Shopping Center at the intersection of Rimpau Avenue and Magnolia Avenue. The Corona Health Care Center is sandwiched between Circle City Drive and Rimpau Avenue. Circle City Drive merges with Rimpau Drive several blocks to the north.

Lincoln Fundamental Elementary School is located in Sunnyslope. That school is also called Lincoln Alternative Elementary School. The closest conventional elementary school is Garretson off of Garretson Avenue. This is close to Kellogg Park, but unlike many other elementary schools, the park is not adjacent to the school. Kellogg Park is actually next to the Excelsior Charter School Corona campus. This charter school is for students in seventh through twelfth grade. It is called Excelsior Charter School Corona because there are other campuses in Barstow, North Victorville, San Bernardino, the Redlands, Phelan and Ontario. The Ontario Campus is in Ontario, California, not on Ontario Drive in Corona, California.

Go north of City Circle Drive, and you reach City Park. This park is located on East Sixth Street. It has the standard basketball courts, restrooms, and soccer fields. However, it is one of the premier parks in Corona due to its large swimming pool. It also has volleyball courts and horseshoe pits. The park itself covers roughly twenty acres.

Kellogg Park is located southwest of Fullerton Avenue. That puts it two large city blocks south of Sunnyside Cemetery. Kellogg Park is a five acre park with water fountains, public bathrooms, playgrounds, a tennis court and a horseshoe pit. It doesn’t have a pool like City Park.

This is an older part of town. There are homes here built between 1940 and 1969. But it attracts families because you can buy small homes for roughly half a million dollars. A lot of the single family homes were built in the decades after World War 2. This urban area has a wide selection of apartment complexes and condos. This means there are far more renters than home owners. The lower real estate prices make this a haven for those seeking affordable housing. Unfortunately, that is why this area has a relatively high rate of child poverty. Roughly a quarter of all children in the area are living below the federal poverty line. A third of the population works in manufacturing or construction.

Depending on your definition, it can be called diverse. The 2010 Census found that 56 percent of residents had Mexican ancestry. Roughly half of households speak Spanish, while most of the rest speak English.
