Solutions For Summer Fun!

It’s only June, but the hot summer months are already upon us – which means so is summer vacation! My step-daughter was out a little earlier this year than she was the last, so we’re excited to get to spend more time with her. But I absolutely dread the “Mommy, I’m bored” weekends.

As a preemptive strike, here are a few things I have planned for my little one, and maybe a few activities you can use as well!

  • If you’re within the Riverside-Corona area, you can try Citrus or Ridgeline Park. Both parks are located in Corona and have splash pads perfect for the summer. Pack the swimsuit, some extra clothes, a towel, and you’re good to go!
  • Some kids are more outdoorsy and rough-and-tumble. If that describes your little ones, hiking could be really fun! Some popular hiking spots in the area are Skyline Ridge in Corona and Mount Rubidoux in Riverside. Skyline often has streams and creeks lining the trails on your way up.
  • What if your kids are more artsy and don’t like to play outside? Everyone’s different (although they’re probably missing out on some pretty intense water balloon fights). Maybe do some tie-dye shirts! Or socks, or shorts, or jackets. All you need are rubber bands, dye, and some imagination to create something funky your kids can wear for the rest of the summer.
  • Summer concerts could be a fun option for kids and The Rhythm of Riverside summer concert is at Fairmount Park, every Wednesday from June 13 to July 25, 6-9pm (except 4thof July). There will be food vendors, live entertainment, and activities for everyone.
  • More of a movie family? This year, Riverside’s Parks and Recreation department is presenting Moves in the Park from June 15 through August 4. All movies are G or PG and include Coco, Peter Rabbit, and Despicable Me 3, just to name a few. Bring a blanket or some chairs and you’ll be set!

Summer is an exciting season, so seize as much of it as you can!
